Minecraft is Lagging Badly?!

I have Minecraft on a Toshiba Satellite. It is less than a year old & has Windows 8. I downloaded Minecraft the other day & it is lagging HORRIBLY! I tried setting the settings to the lowest they could go, & it's still lagging! Please help!
