Hey MineCraft LAN isn't working(all versions)?

It used to work but now it says it isn't, it won't pick it up. I got a new laptop(Win 8.1) and now it isn't working. We are on the same network. I don't know if this is abnormal but it says the ports are different. I am on Win 8.1 and he is on OSX 10.8 or something
