How and where to start gaming?

So I was wondering where I should start with gaming. The only game I have actually played was Kingdom Hearts and it was my favorite game a few years ago. Ever since then I stopped and haven't played a game. I also want to get into PC gaming rather than console gaming. My friends told me to try to play Minecraft but I haven't had the time to play it yet. I have seen a lot of my friends play GTA and it seems fun. I don't like any first person shooter games either haha. So any suggestions to what I might like or what I should try? It would be great to get some PC gaming tips as well!
