Macbook vs Macbook Pro for School?

I like the portability of the new Macbook especially for school. I also like being an early adopter and the thought of getting a computer before my friends excites me. This computer would need to last me several years writing essays and doing light gaming such as mincraft and Garry s mod with the possibility of slightly more intense games (maybe call of duty). Would the Macbook (gold PT black?) be enough or should I play it safe and go for the pro? BTW I am going to be a junior in high school this year and the only other device I have is an iphone 6.
