What tool do i use to break diamond in minecraft?

Ok so when i see diamond, gold, and redstone in minecraft, I try 2 break them with the stone pickaxe, but they just shatter… And i dont get anything, am i supposed 2 use an iron pickaxe or something? Im sorta new 2 the game
