Why does minecraft 1.9 lag so bad for me?

a have a halfway decent computer but a lag bad in Minecraft 1.9. And by bad I mean BAD. Its not just in game though. Its even in the menu. What am i doing wrong? I'm playing with Optifine too!

any suggestions on what i should do?
