Why won't minecraft start and how do i fix unrecognized windows sockets error?

I just finished buying minecraft and i downloaded the launcher got java 64 bit version the latest one. When i opened the launcher an error ocurred and i can't play. Something about unrecognized windows sockets and that it can't download the remote file, i have a good wifi and i don't have any firewall blocking it ( at least i don't think i do ) and here is part of the message it says the rest is just repeated and i have been trying to fix it for the past 2 hours and can't figure it out.

i have a windows 8 laptop 64 bit. Please help will really really appreciate it.
