What is this ghost like being that is in the nether?

So I have a Modded 1.7.10 Minecraft game, and occasionally while I m in the nether, I get lifted off of the ground by some unknown being. When I die, it says I died from fall damage, but there is something I can t see lifting me off the ground. When it happens I also hear a strange sound, something like an apparition would make. I m creeped out because this isn t something I ve ever seen anyone else experience before.
