Why can't I connect to any servers?

It's mostly mine craft, but not just for that game or just games total, any type of servers I want to join I just can't, and when I do, it lasts five minuts and then crashes with a crash report with most of the errors server related, and some people say it's the server itself but I have tried servers that I know would be up and running, I recently just got a new iMac, and I downloaded Minecraft and it's when I started noticing I can't connect to servers, I thought it was just the Mac so I went to my Laptop (PC) and tried it there, same problems, so I knew then that it was router/wifi related, I read that if you have a ping lower than 25MS then you can't get into servers, my ms is ranging between 40-125 ion most cases 40-80, and I have a download speed of 52 mbps and an upload of 3 mbps. I can still host and connect to my server. So I thought it was the firewall, so I went and it's still on the low setting and I can't access what it's blocking and such. If someone can help me that would be very helpful, and I don't want a bunch of people saying they I have the same problem, I want real answers, this is very important for my YouTube and my parents's jobs.
