In Minecraft when my bred animals de-spawn, does that reset my breeding limit?

Let's say I have a giant farm of cows and I maxed out my breeding limit of these cows then let them out of their pen; Would they despawn? Even if they despawned would that reset my breeding limit so I could breed more animals?
